Stay Telford Silver Stay Out

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]On the 12th of January 1991, Challenge Anneka came to Oakengates. For those under the age of 25, this was a popular TV show where ‘Rear of the Year’ winner, Anneka Rice, was challenged with a varierty of charitable building refurbishment tasks, much like DIY SOS.

Episode ten, entitled Homeless Hostel, brought Anneka and the team to Telford, to convert an old Methodist chapel into a hostel for homeless teenagers in just 24 hours.

Twenty-five years later, working in partnership with statutory agencies and partners from the voluntary sector, Stay is still going strong and supporting about 150 young people at any one time. The young people supported have found themselves in a position where they are vulnerable, homeless or with nowhere else to turn. They treat everybody who comes to them as an individual, working with them to overcome any issues that may affect their ability to live independently, assisting them to develop and thrive as individuals.

As well as a provider of services, they also see their role as one in which to challenge perceptions of homelessness and young people in general.

To mark 25 years or so since Anneka opened the hostel, Stay are holding a sponsored sleep out event. The Silver Stay Out is taking place on Friday 27th November 2015 from 7pm outside Meeting Point House in the Telford Town Centre.

If you would like to take part in the event, the sign up form is over on the Stay website.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”3796″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”3797″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
