Gateway courses to train as a paramedic or midwife in Telford
Telford College is holding an open event next week to highlight its latest range of higher education opportunities.
It is being held at the college’s Haybridge campus on Tuesday September 10, from 10am-12noon, and 4.30pm-6.30pm. Both of these are drop-in sessions, with no appointments necessary.
The event is particularly aimed at those considering a career in either health, science or social science. Among the health careers in the spotlight are midwifery, nursing, and paramedics.

Graham Guest, Telford College’s principal and chief executive, said: “Our Access to Higher Education Diploma is a qualification which prepares students for study at degree level.
“There is no such thing as a typical Access to HE student – these courses are taken by people of all ages and backgrounds.”
The courses are usually completed in one year, but can also be studied on a part-time basis, over two or more years.
Amon the latest Access to HE graduates is 32-year-old Ben Thompson, from Hollinswood, who has trained for a new career after serving with the British army on the front line in Afghanistan.
He has already received an unconditional offer from Staffordshire University to study children’s nursing after achieving distinction grades in every assignment he has submitted.
Ben said: “Enrolling on the Access to Higher Education course at Telford College was probably the most important decision of my professional and academic life to date.
“I expected the course to be only about preparing for studying at university. Instead it has been so much more. I have learnt a lot about the world around me, seeing it in a different light.”
