Tigers rally community for half-term litter pick

Tigers rally community for half-term litter pick

A number of Hexagon Telford Tigers players, staff members and fans joined forces to #TidywithTigers on Wednesday 27th October to tackle littering left behind in the green and community spaces within Telford.

The half-term initiative was run jointly with the Club’s principal Sponsors, Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence in a bid to work towards our mission of contributing to creating a cleaner, greener borough.

Like many parks, beaches and nature reserves across the country, litter is becoming an increasing problem. Litter is dangerous to wildlife and children, looks unsightly and has a negative impact on the surrounding environment.

The #TidywithTigers team collected a number of items that had been littered such as drinks bottles and cans as well as Covid related items such a discarded face masks.

Telford Tigers General Manager and Head Coach Tom Watkins took part in the day himself and was delighted to see individuals from the community wanting to get involved. He said after the event, “Very pleased to have completed our Tigers first litter pick with our friends from Hexagon in the local community. It was a good mix of players, club volunteers and Hexagon staff who spent several hours picking up other people’s litter. It’s sad to see so much rubbish just thrown in the bushes and although we only scratched the surface it felt good to take a little time to help out.”

In addition to the #TidywithTigers team being out in full force, Telford Tigers fans took part in the initiative across the County and beyond. Those who were unable to join the event were encouraged to take part in the campaign with family and friends wherever they may be.

All the litter collected was collected with recyclables being sorted before being collected by Telford and Wrekin Council. Telford Tigers would like to thank all those who got involved in the #TidywithTigers campaign

Hexagon Managing Director David Brown added “This was a great joint hands-on effort between the Tigers and Hexagon. Between the two of us, we recognize our Telford DNA, so any activities, small or big, which enhance our community, social and environment is something we will all continue to support”.
