New Plans for Convenience Store
The Co-op off North Road in Wellington is closing it’s doors for the final time on 22nd of January, but it’s not all bad news.
The popular store is being refurbished and will re-open under a new brand.
The shop will become a Morrisons Daily Franchise, offering similar products and services and with the same staff.
McColls in New Street closed in December after, having been bought out by Morrisons with intention of converting some of the stores into the Morrisons Daily format. This is unrelated to the change to the Co op.

The main morrisons store has gone so expensive so I can only imagine what the prices will be like in a morrisons daily!!!!

Originally the back in the 60s/70s the original shop was on the opposite side of the road on the corner of North road and tern way where there is now a bungalow the original shop was of timber construction if I remember correctly I’m sure someone on here will correct me if I’m mistaken and it was owned owned by a chap named wilf can’t remember his surname and the shop was always known as wilfs paper shop later on the original shop was demolished and a new one built on the opposite side of the road it was then run by the Shropshire star group then over the years since it has had around 3 more owners
I can remember when it was a little wooden shack. The guy that built and owned it was called Wilfred, so we used to call it Wilfs. He used to sell damp fireworks. Lived in Turn Way.
Originally it was on the site it is now. But it did move across the road where the bungalow is now. Wilf lived in Tern Way.
You could buy a packet of fags for 1shilling and 9 pence.
