General Election Called – July 4th
The Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak has decided to call a General Election on 4th July, 6 months before the latest date he could have chosen in Jan 25.
The decision comes on the back of encouraging inflation & growth figures, but the polls are telling a very different story, putting Labour around 30 points ahead.
In Telford, this means the current Conservative MP, Lucy Allan stands down, leaving politics and a 10,000 vote majority. Hannah Campbell has been selected by the local Conservatives to challenge Labour’s Cllr Shaun Davies for the seat.
In The Wrekin, Labour have not selected a challenger for the incumbent Mark Pritchard MP who is sitting on a majority of almost 19,000. Liberal Democrat PPC Anthony Lowe, and Reform UK PPC Richard Leppington have thrown their hats into the ring.
