Belly Dancers raise £550 for Telford Cancer Charity
Saturday 20th July was a sparkly evening for many, as Belly Dancers, Pole Fitness and Burlesque Dancers joined together at Dawley Town Hall to put on a showcase and raise £550 for the Jayne Sargent Foundation, supporting people living with cancer in Telford.
Emily of Emira Belly Dance (seen in pics in blue and black costume) was the evenings host. The event is known as a ‘Hafla’, an Arabic term for Dance Celebration. Almost 100 dancers, friends and family gathered together for an evening of culture, music and sparkle. We celebrate every dancer and every performance, body image doesn’t matter, it’s all about the fun and expression!
Food included locally sourced Samosas, Naan breads and home made cakes. Raffle prizes included generous vouchers from local business such as Exotic Zoo, Body Love with Nat, Peepo Bridgnorth and Wellness Within.
Sara and guests representing the charity had front row seats to each performance and have previously danced with Emily as part of their well-being workshops and regular meet ups. The money raised will continue to fund more activities and support for those living with cancer in Telford.
Emira Belly Dance has plans to host a Hafla as an annual event! She currently teaches beginners Belly Dance classes in Bridgnorth and Dawley.
