Flooding chaos for Telford

It was travel chaos tonight in Telford as flash floods made getting around town and out of town difficult.

Wellington station had a stranded train that was coming from Wales and going to Birmingham. Passengers waiting for a replacement bus as water flowed past the platform.

Allscot railway bridge and the railway bridge by Furrows on Whitchurch Road were both flooded and has cars stuck underneath, block the roads. The M54 was solid with traffic at Junction 7 travelling west, vehicles were backed up to Junction 6, where at Wrekin Retail Park, Tesco & Homebase closed to to water ingress.

Further misery in Wellington as Police blocked Watling Street at the junction with Regent Street due to water flooding across the road making it unsafe to pass. The knock on disruption to traffic prevented traffic leaving Arleston that wanted to join Dawley Road.

Even the Seah Stadium, home to AFC Telford Utd was affected. The entirety of the pitch under water.

On the Brooklands estate, once again Hordley Road and Clunbury Road saw stormwater mixed with sewage emerge with force from the drains.

I spoke to resident who has lived there over 40 years, out in the rain trying to stop traffic going down the road. The cars force the water off the road into people’s homes. “They won’t spend the money” he told me.
