Bright career prospects for electrical installations student

A former electrical installations student from Telford College is looking forward to a bright career after landing a job with The Lighting Industry Association.

Kyle Lindsay has been taken on as a trainee technician by the Telford-based organisation, the largest lighting trade association in Europe which is dedicated to serving the industry and promoting good practice.

“I help out conducting a lot of partial testing, as well as the accompanying paperwork, but when I’m a fully qualified technician I’ll be able to do full safety assessments and tests,” he said.

The former Hadley Learning Community student first enrolled on a construction course at Telford College, but decided after his first year that he wanted to specialise in electrical work.

“I liked the practical work in the course; we created lighting circuits, gained an understanding of wires, outlets and regulations vital to the industry.

“I’d like to work towards becoming an engineer, then look to find a specialisation to cement my place in the company. I’d recommend to any students to work towards the career you want to do and stay focused on what you’ve got to do to get there.”

Melissa Duckett, finance and HR manager at the Lighting Industry Association’s base at Stafford Park, said: “We decided to speak to local colleges to see if there were any talented individuals, and we were impressed with Kyle’s abilities.”

Laboratory manager Jack Adams added: “When Kyle first came in, we set him an assessment task and he passed it with flying colours. He’s fitted into our small team really well.

“I was sat in Kyle’s seat 11 years ago and I’m now managing the laboratories. There’s no limit to where Kyle can go.”
