Fake text message promises govt benefits
A scam which proports to be from the UK Home Office contains a link to a fake website designed to look official.
The message offers the recipient a chance to apply for a ‘living allowance’ in leiu of the Winter Fuel Allowance.
Here’s how to spot fake messages like these:
– Poor grammar & English
– short notice to complete a task
On the landing page, if you look at the web address, it will ask for your details and claim that you have to pay £1 to verify your card. This will then allow you to receive the benefit.
In reality, if you put your card details in, it will be much more than £1 they will take.
