Pan-disability football group launched in Telford

AFC Telford United Foundation has launched a pan-disability football group for players of all ages to develop their football and social skills.

The group meets for training sessions and games every Sunday morning (11am) at the AFC Telford United Goalzone pitches in Wellington.

Club bosses are looking to create teams for players in the Under-12, Under-16 and senior age groups, with games against similar teams in the region.

The aim is to give disabled players an opportunity to play football in a supportive environment, where participation and enjoyment of the game is most important.

Head Coach Stuart Fletcher said: “I am delighted that AFC Telford United Foundation is launching sessions for pan-disability football. Everyone is welcome to join us!

“We want people in the pan-disability sector a chance to enjoy playing football and develop social skills in a non-judgmental environment.

“Sessions are just £4 and completely informal, so players can have a great time learning new skills and making friends.

“We have got close working links with other major clubs in the region and we’re already lining up games in the coming months.

“I have been working with junior footballers in Telford for over 20 years and I know that with the right input from everyone, we can build a lasting legacy for pan-disability sports in the town.”

Ian Preece, Head of AFC Telford Foundation, added: “By launching these sessions, we are offering an opportunity for everyone to enjoy keeping fit and make lifelong friends through football.

“We have seen similar sessions enjoy great success in the past, so I am confident we can repeat that by launching sessions on Sunday mornings.

“The eventual aim is to have teams for all age groups from Under-12 through to senior level, all playing at our Goal Zone pitches.

“I have known Stuart Fletcher for a number of years and I am delighted to bring him on board with the AFC Telford United Foundation.”
