Trench Lock can cope says planning report

A new industrial development in Telford could cause more problems on the A442 according to residents.

A planning application for the development situated in Hadley, features five industrial units with up to 90,951m2 of commercial floorspace – almost the size of Telford Shopping Centre. It’s not only the space they take up that’s bothering residents, but the height too. With the tallest at over 20m high, there are few buildings in the town that would match the size and scale.

Local resident Ami Sellwood told Telford Live! “We are objecting to this application mainly on the grounds of it’s enormous scale and excessive height (over 20m), 24/7 noise at neighbouring properties and traffic on the A442.

“The largest building is so big RAF Shawbury have had to be contacted. There are currently enormous problems with traffic on the A442 during rush hour and clocking off time at nearby Hortonwood and a development of this size will add more problems to our roads.”

Telford & Wrekin planning report dismisses some of these claims, in particular the claim about the traffic problems. The report states “Junction Capacity Assessments have been carried out in relation to peak hour traffic flows at the following junctions – A442/Hadley Park East/Hortonwood 30, A442/A518/Trench Road/Trench Lock, Hollinswood Interchange and the wider estate access/Hadley Park East which have concluded that the proposal can be easily accommodated within the local highway network and will not have a significantly adverse impact upon the operation of the surrounding network.”

The deadline for comments on the planning application ends on Friday.
