Newport Girls’ High School Staff member discharged from Hospital

A letter informing parents of a ‘serious incident’ at a local Girls School has been sent out by the Headteacher.

The ‘isolated incident’ between a student and a member of staff took place on Friday lunchtime, where the Staff member sustained injuries for which they received hospital treatment.

The letter dated the 9th of November, also refers to messages shared on Social Media which have been passed to Police to help with their investigations.

Mr Adam Jones, Headteacher at Newport Girls High School Academy, said:
“I can confirm there was an isolated incident in school on Friday involving a pupil and a member of staff. The member of staff received hospital treatment and has since been discharged. The police were called, and we are assisting them with their enquiries.

“I wish to reassure pupils, families and staff members that we take the safety and well-being of pupils and staff very seriously, and that this was an isolated incident. I understand that this may be distressing so additional support is available for any pupil or staff who require it.

“As this is an ongoing police investigation we cannot comment further.”

One concerned parent contacted Telford Live! and shared their feelings “I’m genuinely horrified an incident of this nature has happened in a school such as Newport Girls High School. It’s made me question just how safe my daughter is when she is at school and whether or not the school is capable of keeping their staff and pupils safe. Isolated incident or not, this should never have happened.

“Hearing about this kind of thing happening in your child’s school is every parent’s worst nightmare.”
