The British Geological Society are reporting that there was a small earthquake just North West of Newport, Shropshire last night.

The tremor was measured at 1.8 magnitude at a depth of 6km. You would be forgiven for thinking this was a rare event in the UK, but this was the seventh registered earthquake recorded in the UK, in December.

The epicentre was at Chetwynd Grange, near Edgmond.

Catherine Catton who lives nearby told Telford Live “My Christmas tree and crockery started shaking in the kitchen.”
