Nominate an Outstanding Young Citizen before Friday

Time is running out to submit entries for this year’s Shropshire High Sheriff’s Outstanding Young Citizen Awards.

High Sheriff Brian Welti is looking to reward young people who are dedicated to helping their local community through voluntary work, environmental activities, family or political activities.

Entries are closing soon, and organisers are calling on schools, colleges and community organisations to nominate anyone under the age of 18 they believe stands out from the crowd.

Entries close on Friday February 14, and the awards ceremony will be held at Telford College on March 10.

Shropshire High Sheriff Brian Welti said: “This prestigious event has been running for many years and is always a wonderful, celebratory occasion.

“Awards are given in recognition of excellence and outstanding attitudes and actions among young people aged 18 or under.

“Whether it’s voluntary work and community activities such as fundraising, youth work and mentoring, or environmental projects like conservation and recycling, caring for a family member or being involved in a youth council, there are many reasons why young people deserve to be recognised.

“If you know of an individual, a voluntary or community group, or a business that is going the extra mile and who deserves the recognition, please do nominate them.”

Nomination forms can found at www.telfordcollege.ac.uk/high-sheriff-award/, and entries should be emailed to marketing@telfordcollege.ac.uk.

As well as individual winners, there will also be an overall champion selected for the education authorities of both Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin.

Parents, guardians and teachers will join the shortlisted nominees at the evening celebration, and winners will receive personalised certificates, presented by the High Sheriff.

If you know of a young person who has contributed to their local community, they can be nominated through their school, college, or community group.
