Shaun Davies MP Meets Telford’s Frontline Community Health Professionals
Telford MP Shaun Davies is urging residents to share their views this week on local NHS services through his survey, covering GPs, dentists, social care, and hospitals. Insights will help shape the Government’s 10-Year Health Plan, set for release in the spring, driving long-term NHS reform.
Shaun Davies Member of Parliament for Telford has visited Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust to meet with healthcare professionals and discuss the government’s priorities as part of his ongoing work to improve local healthcare services within the constituency. Shaun is currently calling on Telford constituents for them to tell him their views and experiences about local NHS services to help ensure the voices of people in Telford are heard during the ongoing national healthcare reforms.
During the visit to Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust Shaun spoke with staff to hear first-hand about the challenges they face, the resources they need, and the ways in which local community healthcare services can be strengthened in Telford.
He learned how the Trust is taking a proactive approach with a digital focus, transitioning from managing sickness to prioritising prevention. This included an innovative pilot scheme supporting patients with the management of their Type 2 Diabetes that allows both the patient and nurses to monitor blood glucose levels much more accurately. The scheme has now been successfully delivered into the homes of patients across Telford and has resulted in the improved management of a patient’s diabetes which will go on to improve their long term outcomes over time.
Shaun commented: “It was my pleasure to meet some of our amazing NHS workforce who work not in our hospital but in thousands of homes across Telford every day. They shared how they are working harder than ever to restore services, reduce waiting lists, and maintain the highest standard of care—all while keeping people out of the hospital and supporting some of the most vulnerable children and adults in our town.
“I recognise the tireless efforts of NHS staff who are delivering essential services under immense pressure and remain committed to improving healthcare in Telford and working hard to secure the resources we need. The last Labour government achieved record-low waiting times and historic patient satisfaction—I believe we can reach that standard again.”
Patricia Davies, Chief Executive Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust said: “It was fantastic to welcome Shaun Davies MP to meet colleagues and learn about the innovative work they are doing to improve community health care across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin. I am incredibly proud of our staff and pleased they had the opportunity to showcase their passion and give Shaun an insight into the projects that are making a positive difference to the communities we serve.”
The Government has already announced that NHS England’s budget will increase from £171bn in 2023/24 to £192bn in 2025/26, an increase of £21.0bn in cash terms; a real-terms annual average increase of 4.0%.
