Two Telford charities to ‘Pass Go’

Winning Moves UK and Hasbro, a leading toy and game company, have announced that the new MONOPOLY: Telford & Wrekin Edition will feature two charities on the game’s Community Chest spaces.

“It’s our way of thanking the public for getting behind the game so very enthusiastically,” says Ben Ladd Gibbon, Custom Games Partnerships Manager at Winning Moves UK, who is producing the board under license from Hasbro.

Earlier this month Winning Moves UK announced the region is getting its own official version of the world’s most popular board game.

At the time, the public was invited to send in general suggestions for GENERAL local landmarks – such as the Iron Bridge and Telford Statue – to feature in the game. Polls have now closed for these general suggestions but are re-opening for one week – from tomorrow morning – specifically for charity nominations.

Mr Ladd Gibbon adds: “We would like to formally thank each and every person who has sent in nominations. We are studying each and every one. Meantime, now– as our way of a thank you – two local charities will now get to star in the game.

“We feel that the charities getting to feature on the board’s Community Chest spaces is a great fit, bearing in mind the ‘community’ aspect of these unique MONOPOLY features.”

For charities to qualify for this opportunity and be in the running to be selected, the charities must be Telford and Wrekin linked, as well as be official. The public can nominate charities and charities can nominate themselves.

Telford and Wrekin were chosen from a shortlist of ten places from across the UK to land its own board.

At the announcement Mr Ladd Gibbon said: “We are certain we are going to be wonderfully spoilt with choices when putting this MONOPOLY game together.”

Charity suggestions can be made by email to: telford@winningmoves.co.uk

Nominations will be accepted for consideration from 00.01am on 25th February 2025 until 23.59pm on 3rd March 2025. The game will hit the shops in time for this Christmas (2025).
