Former Mayor condemns lack of hospital transport connections

A former Councillor and Mayor of Wellington, Dorothy Roberts, posed a question to Wellington Town Council this evening about the lack of public transport links to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital an important part of healthcare for many local residents.

Addressing the council, Mrs Roberts stated “Since 2023 we have had no bus service to Shrewsbury. Those travelling to RSH have to go by train and walk to Shrewsbury bus station. This issue was raised by Cllr Lisa Jinks here in 2023 but nothing was done.

“I’m sure those of you who have travelled recently to RSH appreciate the appalling parking issues and therefore the need of a good regular bus service.

“There is the X10 which travels hourly from Telford bus station to Shrewsbury via the motorway. This could easily pick up in Wellington.

“A lot of effort has gone into improving the service throughout Telford to PRH, now the same must be done for RSH, Wellington has a huge population with 7 borough wards and people in Leegomery are affected too.”

It was announced by Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust earlier this year, that a free Park and Ride trial for patients and staff has been set up. The service connecting RSH with the Oxon Park and Ride that operates 10am and 3pm Monday to Friday with the trial due to end in April.

Cllr Paul Davies, acting chair, promised a written reply as the scope of the question was outside the direct control of the Council.
