PCSO abused outside school over parking
A PCSO was verbally abused outside a school while trying to direct parking, but the suspect fled the scene.
The confrontation was revealed during the Wellington Town Council meeting this week. While parking safely around most schools is a challenge, North Road in Wellington is a particular hotspot for parking problems with St Patricks and Wrekin View School opposite each other.
Both schools are in Cllr Paul Davis’ ward. He said “Parking at peak times can be a real problem, particularly for residents as far more parents now find themselves having to drop off and pick up children, often due to busy working lives.”
“I would urge parents to investigate the brilliant, ‘Walking Bus’ provision at Morrisons, which makes the journey to school safer and more convenient.”
Sergeant Ben Hoare, said: “During our regular work with Telford & Wrekin council to ensure pupil and parent safety outside of schools, one of our police community support officers (PCSOs) was subjected to verbal abuse whilst trying to direct parking. The suspect fled the scene but their number plate was captured and an investigation into the driving offences committed and the abuse towards our PCSO will be progressed.
“We will continue to work with the local authority to safeguard the pupils and staff at our local schools and will not tolerate any abuse of our staff whilst they are completing this important work.”
