Telford Debenhams escapes the axe – for now

High street retailer Debenhams won a court battle to close 22 stores as a result of entering an agreement with creditors, putting over 1000 jobs at risk.

The Telford store is not on closure list, but Wolverhampton and Fort Dunlop will close after Christmas.

Further store closures and downsizing will be announced later.

  • If the shopping centre reduces the rents maybe more high street stores would have incentive to stay. Landlord rates are killing the high street

  • It’s all part of the evolution of retail.
Towns high streets and markets suffered massively in the 80’s and 90’s because of out of town retail parks and shopping centres and now they are suffering a similar fate as more and more people chose online shopping….
To stay in the game you simply have to be innovative and move with the times…
Shopping is very different now to how it was 20 years ago and I’m sure it’ll be very different again in 20 years time
