Long serving Telford Councillor passes away suddenly
Telford & Wrekin Council announced this morning that one of its longest serving councillors – Councillor Elizabeth (Liz) Clare – passed away suddenly and peacefully in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Councillor Clare held a number of Cabinet roles on Telford & Wrekin Council including Cabinet member for Adult and Social Care and Leisure Services and Culture.
She also continued to serve as current chair of the council’s Licensing Committee and ward councillor for Donnington until her death.
Councillor Clare had served as a parish councillor since 1979 and also served as a school governor.
Telford & Wrekin Council leader Councillor Shaun Davies said: “I am extremely saddened by this heart breaking and sudden news."
Councillor Clare secured vital investment to create the Donnington Hub, secured the future of the local Library and investments for roads, parking and measures to tackle speeding in their ward.
Councillor Clare also used her ward funding to support local organisations including the Scouts and Boxing Club. She also funded the planting of poppies and wildflowers in the local area.
So sad, RIP Cllr Clare
