Bowring Park Protest against Polluters

Telford Extinction Rebellion took part in a nationwide protest 'No going back' with a message to the government to bail out the people and the planet, not the polluters.

A spokesman told Telford Live "Only this morning it was reported that Virgin were still seeking a £500 million bailout. We would like to say to the government, we should not be bailing out some of our most polluting industries, we should be investing in a transition to a more environmentally friendly, sustainable economy. This would create jobs at a time when it is most needed, revitalising the economy and would move us away from an economy that is currently still heavily dependent on fossil fuels."

The peaceful protest, with members observing social distancing and wearing face coverings, took place in Wellington this morning.

"The past few weeks have shown us how much can change in our country if there is political will, we would now like to see the political will to fight the next oncoming threat, that of climate change with the same determination" said a spokesman.

  • So is this really any different to the gatherings in London? Fair enough they are social distancing but still unnecessary gatherings in my opinion.

  • Maybe we should just concentrate on one thing at a time when we are completely free of this virus then we can protest about other stuff think about priorities and this virus is priority at the moment

  • I’m going to take it that they all walked or cycled there. They don’t own a vehicle, use a bus or take a taxi EVER?

  • The can protest as they maintain social distance but you cant see your mom and dad at the same time in a park and social distance it’s only 2 people allowed makes sense to me

  • It’s actually a bit of a misconception, I used to be a pilot and although I can’t remember the exact figures aviation was far from being one of the top polluters.

  • Still counted as a social gathering of more than 2 people even though they are social distancing

  • This is one gathering (social distanced) that I support as it’s for the greater good. Well done to all those who took part
