Could we see a new Power Station built in the Gorge?

A consultation started this morning which could see a brand new Power Station built in Ironbridge Gorge.

The new facility could provide valuable energy for all the new electric cars that will replace petrol & diesel cars over the next ten years.

The Swedish entrepreneur behind the proposed development, Olof Prila, told Telford Live “People loved the towers so much, we would not expect any objections, and indeed we are considering a fifth tower so those people with electric cars can use the ‘Sport’ setting with a clear conscience.”

Ironbridge has a long and proud history of power generation, starting in 1921, with the second power station added in the 1960s. It all came crashing down, quite literally, last year.

Following the Telford & Wrekin vs Gazebo 2021 case, it’s unclear if five cooling towers would fit into the local plan.
