Grounds for saving the planet

A scheme to turn waste into cleansing products has united three local businesses.

The Green Cove an Eco friendly refill shop and Escape the Robot both located in Wellington Market have teamed up together to recycle the spent coffee grounds.

Food court cafe, Escape the Robot are supplying coffee grounds which are being used as an ingredient in the exfoliating face polish and soaps produced by LilyM, a local Shrewsbury business run by Nisa Mendez.

Typically, spent coffee grounds are dumped into general waste and sent to landfill where they emit methane – a greenhouse gas 25 times more potent than carbon dioxide over a 100-year period, and one of the primary causes of global warming.

The Green Cove sells the LilyM range along with dried cupboard foods, loose tea, coffee beans, Flavoured oils, eco friendly household and hygiene products.

LilyM skincare and soap sets are currently being sold in The Green Cove and 5% of the profits from the LilyM foundation got towards helping domestic violence victims.
