Councillor Quits over Wheelchair Access

Newport Cllr, Nick Garvey, has resigned his post today after being unable to attend meetings in his wheelchair.

Cllr Garvey wanted a temporary change of venue to allow him to participate in council meetings. Newport Town Council meetings usually take place in an upstairs meeting room at the Guildhall. Although a stairlift is available, users need to be able to walk from the stairlift, to the meeting room – an option no longer available to Cllr Garvey.
