Hali-fax Off

The Halifax joins the long list of banks and building societies to shut up shop in Telford as it announces the forthcoming closure of its branch in Wellington.

The Duke Street branch is set to close in January next year, the company stating “Before we close any branch, we look at how our customers are managing their money and using the branch. Most customers are now using our Mobile Banking app, Online Banking or calling us instead. This means they are using branches, including our Wellington (Shrops) branch much less.”

According to data released by the company, the number of transactions taking place at the bank has fallen by half since 2019.

The closest branch will be Telford Town Centre, although some transactions could be fulfilled by the Post Office in Market Street, but not on Wednesday afternoons.

While it’s bad news for Halifax customers, don’t forget that the HSBC leaving opened up a space for a Cinema in Market Square. What would you like to see in the space vacated by the Halifax?
