Labour hold on to both Borough seats

It was a win-win for Labour tonight as voters in The Nedge (Stirchley/Randlay/Hollinswood) and Hadley and Leegomery went to the polls.

A shade over 22% of eligible voters in each ward went out on a cold but dry November day and evening to cast their vote.

At Hadley & Leegomery, Julie Kaur was victorious with 778 votes.

Cllr Kaur said “Couldn’t have done it with the support of the local labour party and also thanks to all the people who voted for me, I’ll do you proud and continue to community work as I always have done.”

In The Nedge, it was so close that a full recount commenced at a quarter to midnight. The count was eventually declared 20 minutes later.

Nathalie Catherine Veronique Page (Lab) won with 636 votes, beating Tom Wust (Cons) by just 16 votes.

Voter ID was required at this vote, as it was at the General Election. A cross party Scrutiny Committe examined at the impact of the extra checks and found that very few people were turned away.
