Secondary school national offer day

For the fourth year running, 95% of year six pupils across the Borough of Telford and Wrekin have been offered a place at one of their preferred secondary schools.

Today (3 March) is national offer day when parents and carers find out which secondary school their child has been offered a place at for September this year.

Telford & Wrekin Council received 2347 on time applications and offered every applicant a school place.

In total, 1907 (81percent) received their first preference, 229 (10 percent) their second preference, 69 (three percent) their third preference and 14 (nearly one percent) their fourth preference.

Councillor Shirley Reynolds, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People, Education, Employment and Skills, said:

“Once again, we’re really pleased that we have been able to offer a preferred secondary school place to 95 percent of year six pupils, who are making the transition to secondary school in September.

“We’ll be notifying parents and carers via email to confirm their child’s school place, but they can also find this information through their parent portal account.

“Through our school expansion programme, we are providing hundreds of new school places to ensure our schools have the capacity to meet the growing demand across the Borough and we can continue to reach high levels of pupils being offered one of their preferred schools.

“In the budget for 2025/26, we have earmarked a further £45.2million to support and develop our school expansion programme, which confirms our commitment to provide more school places and modern learning environments for our students.

“Education is the cornerstone of a vibrant community. By investing in our schools, we are investing in our future.”

The council will be notify parents and carers by email of their secondary school application outcome today (3 March), but they can also view their secondary school offer by logging onto the Parent Portal account on the Council’s website.

Parents and carers whose children have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) have already been informed of their September school place.

The investment of £45.2m in schools, funded through a combination of government grant and developer contributions, is part of an overall budget which will also see £365m invested in a wide range of service areas, helping to create jobs, homes, transport improvements and boost town centres.
