Richard celebrates 25 years at Salop Leisure

The touring and motorhome workshop foreman at award-winning dealership Salop Leisure has chalked up 25 years’ service with the Shrewsbury-based company.

Richard Morris, 48, from Telford, has worked in the industry since leaving school and joined Salop Leisure as a caravan engineer.

He has climbed the promotion ladder to his current position and now oversees and trains a team of 12 engineers in the busy workshops.

“It seems only yesterday that I was celebrating 20 years working for the company,” said Richard. “I have seen some massive developments during my time with Salop Leisure which is a good company to work for and was really supportive when I had a mountain bike accident nine years ago.”

A diagnostic specialist for faults with touring caravan and motorhome appliances, he supervises pre-delivery inspections to ensure the highest quality is achieved and maintained. Over the years, he has worked on thousands of caravans and motorhomes.

Richard, who has been joined in the workshops by his stepson, Josh Abbott, 19, says he enjoys the camaraderie with the engineers in his team. “We spend more of our lives with our work colleagues than we do with our families, so it’s important that we enjoy coming to work,” he added.

The mountain bike accident, to which he referred, happened at Coed y Brenin, near Dolgellau and left him injured and shaken. He has now swapped the bike for a kayak which he paddles on the River Severn with a friend as a hobby.

Based at Emstrey, Shrewsbury, Salop Leisure has satellite sales centre in Machynlleth and Stourport-on-Severn.
