Priorslee man banned from driving for two years after failing to provide specimen
A Telford man has been handed a two-year driving disqualification after appearing before magistrates for failing to provide a specimen for analysis.
Daniel Payton, 34 from Priorslee, appeared at Telford Magistrates’ Court on 12 March 2026 to face the charge.
The court heard that the incident took place in Telford on 27 December 2025. Payton was suspected of having driven a vehicle and was required to provide a specimen of breath for analysis as part of an investigation into a potential driving offence. However, he failed to do so without a reasonable excuse.
Payton entered a guilty plea, which the court took into account when determining his sentence.
His initial fine of £1,500 was reduced to £1,000 as a result of the early plea. In addition to the fine, he was ordered to pay a £400 surcharge and £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service, with a collection order put in place for the full amount to be paid by 7 May 2026.
The 24-month driving disqualification is obligatory for the offence. Magistrates did, however, offer a reduction of 24 weeks if Payton successfully completes an approved driving course by 25 July 2027.
