Lithium batteries cause Hadley garage fire

Firefighters were called to a residential street in Hadley yesterday afternoon following reports of a fire involving a domestic garage.

Appliances from Wellington and Tweedale stations attended the scene on Sunningdale at approximately 13:22 on Wednesday, 18 March.

Upon arrival, crews discovered a fire within the garage structure. Firefighters equipped with breathing apparatus entered the building to tackle the blaze, using a single hose reel jet to extinguish the flames.

Once the fire was out, the team used a thermal imaging camera to inspect the area and ensure there were no remaining hotspots or hidden fire spread within the walls or roof space.

Following an investigation into the cause of the incident, Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that the fire started due to the accidental ignition of lithium batteries that had been left on charge.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire, which was confined to the garage area.
