Samaritans in Telford
Although most people have heard of the Samaritans many do not really know what we do. We are a listening service open to anyone with no advanced booking or waiting lists, our phone lines are open 24 hours a day 365 days a year, so no one ever need feel that they have no one to talk to.
Samaritans provides confidential emotional support for people experiencing feelings of distress and despair including those which could lead to suicide”. This means if you are unhappy we listen without judging or telling you what to do. Many people do not realise the benefits that talking through their problems anonymously with a trained listener could have when they are trying to cope with difficult emotions or situations and we would like to encourage more people to give it a try.
In September of this year Samaritans launched a nation wide poster campaign called “Were in your corner” after much research this campaign featuring “ordinary men” is designed to bring our message to those most at risk of suicide (men aged 35-55) but least likely to ask for help.
Here in Telford Samaritans are also starting several new initiatives to spread the word on what we can offer. One such initiative is our team of volunteers who go into schools and work places to speak or run workshops depending on the needs of the organization. We have recently sun several successful support sessions for the TCAT staff entitled “how not to take it home”. This is a free service available to any organization interested in promoting the well being of their employees.
