Telfords Most Considerate Drivers

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]So there’s this page on Facebook called ‘Telfords Worst Drivers‘ where people share snaps of people who park across white lines, take up two, or even more spaces and park on the path. On occasion, the offending drivers are tagged in the comments and then come along to try and justify their actions, often hilariously.

Parking like you’ve abandoned the car and getting shamed on Facebook is a growing sport, and on the face of it, quite funny but there is a serious side.  Some of these cars are parked in places which make it difficult for emergency vehicles to get by, or forcing someone to push a pram in the road because they have parked on a path.  The worst cases are those who park dangerously outside schools at kicking out time.

I noticed that there were quite a lot of German cars in these pictures. I wondered if there was something about the Audi, BMW & Mercedes set that had a predisposition to park really thoughtlessly, so I cracked open Excel and thought I’d work it out properly.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

Crap Parkers by Volume

I looked at the latest 100 photos submitted to Telfords Worst Drivers.  About a months worth! I didn’t judge how bad the parking was, I didn’t count vans and some cars I couldn’t figure out the make.

Adjusted Crap Parkers

Yes it is.  To get an adjusted figure, I had to find the number of vehicles on the road by manufacturer.  Not easy.  I ended up using the 2013 market share figure from the SMMT which records new vehicle sales.

I excluded two results, Bentley & MG, because the sales figures were too low to get a reasonable comparison.  Vauxhall drivers still feature strongly, but look at Renault & Jag drivers parking badly above their weight.

Telfords Best Parkers

We can reveal that the towns best and most considerate parkers drive Skodas, closely followed by Hyundais.  We would have expected to see at least three of each make in our sample, but actually found none.
