Cemetery lodge plans revealed by parish council

A Telford parish council has applied for permission to change a cemetery lodge from residential to offices.

Hadley & Leegomery Parish Council had controversially tried to sell Hadley Cemetery Lodge but it ended up being taken off the property market at the end of last year.

A bid had been made for the lodge in Hadley Park Road but a council meeting was told it had fallen though partly because of a campaign against the sale.

Councillors decided on the U-turn after hearing that the council’s finances had “improved” and they now see it as being used as council office space to manage the use of the cemetery.

Planning agent Stephen Owen, of ArrolGreen, in Shrewsbury, has told planners at Telford & Wrekin Council that the proposals “represent an evolution of the building rather than redevelopment.”

At the end of 2025 the parish council sought pre-application advice from Telford & Wrekin Council.

The agent was told there are “no policy constraints which would restrict the building being used for office purposes.

“It is considered that the loss of one dwelling would be outweighed by the public benefits of having the parish council located on the site to effectively manage the cemetery and providing a central base for the parish council.”

The agent writes that the plans focus on the reuse and internal reconfiguration of the building to provide functional, accessible and flexible office space.

“The intention is to secure a viable long-term use for the property while ensuring that its scale, character and relationship with the surrounding area remain appropriate and unchanged.”

A public consultation on the plan has begun on the Telford & Wrekin Council website with the reference TWC/2026/0132

I said a month ago this was happening, I saw the assistant clerk taking office furniture into Cemetery lodge.
It is a 3 bedroomed very large house with
A huge kitchen, 2 WCs a shower, bath . It has a massive dining room and a kitchen diner. A garage and a well sized garden. On top of that it also has an outside summer house with tv and log fire .
What an absolute waste of a “ just re done at the cost of about £120,000 ) renovated so it could be sold . They kicked out myself with 4weeks notice after the renovation ( 2 years ago ) after 22 years of being the cemetery manager. The PC bullied and hounded all staff out with lies , 100% true .
I at the time was offered to rent cemetery lodge at £960 per month. When I accepted they then changed their mind.
A total of almost £26,000lost in rent . Now they can’t sell it because I know lost of things wrong with Cemetery lodge that would make it illegal to sell.
Ie No guarantee ( testing done on the new concrete floor “ to test the concrete strength “Sump test . ( if they had one that would have shown it by now …. 100% do not have it .
that supports the NEW extension. )
No legal drainage ( the septic tank leaks into graves , and the new soak away was put in touching coffins at the framing of the cemetery. The PC have lied and deceived the whole public over this and now because of that decided to use it as officers . What an absolute disgrace and waste of public money, a 3 bedroom very large house when people are homeless in the parish. Jane Lees ( Clerk) and Eileen Callier ( chair) have both got this all so badly wrong, and will not own up to their scandalous unhinged behaviour and mistakes.
On top of this how much money have they paid ex employees to go and keep quiet? NDA
Surely it should be public knowledge…… ?
